Hi Everyone!
Happy Happy Wednesday friends! Today I’m delighted to be included the Summer Tour of Homes this week hosted by my sweet blog friend Marty over at A Stroll Thru Life. She’s rounded up 29 other bloggers to open up our homes and share how we are celebrating Summer in our spaces. If you are popping in over from No Minimalist Here, I’m so glad to have you. Isnt Sherry’s courtyard AMAZING! And also big lamps for the win!
For those of you whom are new here Hi there and welcome to our home! My family and I live in CA and are adjusting to downsized living in our 1940’s cottage bungalow fixer. We are coming up on the last couple months of our first year in our “new” old home after trading our pretty much brand new builder grade home with twice the square footage. Our little home is a major work in progress, but we absolutely love it. We are mid project in pretty much every room in the house at the moment and I have no idea when we’ll ever get everything finished! Our decision to live small has been incredibly rewarding thus far…well except for the fact that we now only have one bathroom and we previously had three! Let’s just say two women, a tweenage girl, a seven year old old boy, and guests all sharing one bathroom gets quite interesting! We also share our small home with our very large Great Dane puppy so life in the bungalow is full to the max and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Summer is my absolute favorite season, and while I’m not necessarily a seasonal decorator, I do love injecting our spaces with fun summer color. Come on in..
In our one and only living are I’ve recently been having fun making the best out of an ugly couch situation. Im a hopeless textile hoarder so I love layering the big beige beast with colorful textiles. In the spring it donned a kantha and for the summer its all about the serape!
Im pretty sure those empty frames will get filled eventually. #slowandsteady.
The porch is one of my absolute fave places to be in the summer and right now I start and end my day there.
Thank you all so much for letting me show you around. Be sure to stop my and visit all the tours today.

Shavonda you have mixed in all of your new treasures so effortlessly. I love all the details and pops of color. We will have to do a girls night at all of our houses over the summer. I have got to see that outdoor space in person 🙂 xo

Hi, Shavonda! I’m so glad I stumbled over here from Marty’s blog–I love your house! It makes me so happy to see a house that has so much of the owner infused in it. I feel like I know you just from looking around. I laughed out loud when I saw the sign over your desk. Great, pretty, and fun house!
Desire Empire says
I love all the colours and textures in your beautiful home.
Pam @ Simple Details says
Wow girl, I LOVE your style, you have a great eye for incorporating all of your fab finds!! I’m dying over the burl table, what an impact! Such a fun collection of pieces and tour!
Shavonda says
Thank you so much Pam. That means SOOOO much coming from the queen of Craiglist!!! You totally made my day.
Doreen @ Hymns and Verses says
Your home is just lovely! The front door color is amazing and love your porch! I also spend my mornings and evenings on the porch! Sweet summertime! So glad we connected this week through the home tours!
Shavonda says
Hi Doreen! Thank you and thanks so much for visiting. I just love fun colored front doors!!
Jennifer@The Chronicles of Home says
Looks so cheery and beautiful, Shavonda! I always love your doses of color, and they feel extra perfect for a summer tour 🙂
Shavonda says
Thank you sweet friend:)
Jeanne says
LOVE your coral front door!!!! Also love the downsizing story – – small IS better! We have a 1400 sq ft home and it is just the perfect size (and also only one bath). When you fill your home with love and have the time to relax (vs all the perpetual motion in a very large home), it is indeed a purposeful life. Enjoy.
Shavonda says
Hi Jeanne!! Yaay for small space dwellers. Right now we are in 1200 square feet and we want to add on about 300 more with a master bedroom and bath since we currently have neither. I don’t want to go any larger than about 1500-1600 sqft. Living small just feels like home for me.
connie says
Such a happy house! Would you mind telling me the source of the zebra skin?
Shavonda says
Hi Connie!!
Thanks so much for stopping by. The zebra hide is from Rugs USA;)
Ann C says
I absolutely love those large glass lamps! I’m a lamp aholic and I am going to have to keep my eyes open for those!
Shavonda says
Hi Ann!! Thank you . They are from Arhaus:)
Chelsea @ Making Home Base says
Always love everything you do my friend!! I would trade a big brand new home for a tiny bungalow with character any day! You are doing such a great job with every space. But for real, that outdoor space – I’m obsessed!
Shavonda says
Thank you so much Chelsea!! Youre welcome over anytime sweet friend.
Carmen P says
I love the front door color and message! I just love your style, period.
Shavonda says
Hi Carmen! Thank you! And thank you so much for visiting;)
Laura Ingalls Gunn says
You know you’re visiting a fantastic home when you’re greeted with such a fabulous front door. The various signage brought a big smile to my face. I’m afraid I might have to use the back door. 🙂 The serape slipcover on the couch is a perfect punch of color. It’s a true delight to be your follow up on the blog tour. Well done!
Shavonda says
Hi Laura!! How sweet are you! Thank you so much. Im glad you enjoyed a peek into my home. Yours was just beautiful. Yay for hippies!!!
Kristin @ Bliss at Home says
Oh Shavonda! Your style is just amazing 🙂 I love every detail. And I’m still infatuated with your outdoor space! xo
Shavonda says
Thank you my friend. Im still dying over that amazing credenza with the gold details you snagged. So good love.
Claire Brody says
Oh Shavonda… Going through all of the home tours right now and had to take an extra couple of minutes for each of your photos. So many details to take in and they all make me so happy. LOVE the new additions to your bedroom (or new since I’ve seen)! Our home is 900 sq feet and while it’s just the two of us, I LOVE small living and know exactly what you mean. McMansions bother me. Your bungalow is perfect and your family is lucky to have such a great place to call home. xoxoxo
Shavonda says
Claire I swear you are just the sweetest ever. Thank you so much. Your words mean so much. I loooooove your home and every single detail you incorporate. You bedroom is just beyond and don’t even get me started on that gorgeous rug in the living room. You’ve seriously got amazing taste. Small homes just feel like home to me. Always have..always will:)
Marty@A Stroll Thru Life says
I love how you aren’t afraid of color, and adore all the texture you add in your home too. Your bedroom is such a welcoming retreat too. Beautiful home and tour. Love it all.
Shavonda says
Thank you Marty! And thank you so much again for having me.
Megan says
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again but I just adore your house. The use of color, which is something I’ve typically stayed away from (due to years of working on neutralizing our house to add color and now needing to actually do it!) and all of the textiles and fun accents. I just love it!
Shavonda says
Thank you Megan. You always know how to make me smile:)
Kris {Driven by Decor} says
Shavonda, I love your style! Your home oozes with charm and personality from the second you step in the front door (actually even before that – love your door color and sign!). I so enjoyed your tour!
