Hi Everyone!
Happy ORC Wednesday friends! Apologies for the no post last week. I had a visit to the hospital on Tuesday and have been on Dr. orders to take it easy, also Carm was in Cancun living her best life for her birthday so things in the Hamilton household were at a stand still with not much progress. BUT we are both back at it and big exciting things are happening in Memphis.
Just before Carmeon took off for a little R&R it was all about demo! Both the bedroom and bathroom saw big changes structurally and aesthetically. In the bathroom the entire space got gutted down to the studs. The crew tackled putting in new electrical and changing up the plumbing. There was a slight snag with the plumbing, of course, but they were able to get it all fixed and figured out in no time.
The team also got to work framing out and installing the two new pocket doors going into the room. The bathroom isn’t a huge space and since we didn’t make any changes to the layout we needed to consider how to maximize as much space as possible. There’s really nothing better than a pocket door for that! The pocket doors are replacing both the closet door and the door leading into the bathroom from the bedroom.
The tub was taken out to make way for the new shower and the vanity wall started getting prepped for the addition of medicine cabinets and additional lighting.
In the bedroom big magic happened with the addition of new French doors! We are SO SO excited about this detail friends! Previously the room had only one window, which was off centered and didn’t provide nearly enough natural light into the space. Carmeon always envisioned adding another window on the opposite side to bring in more light and provide symmetry on the wall, but the HVAC system and pipes within the wall wouldn’t allow for it.
I’ve been trying to convince her for quite a while to consider creating a small outdoor retreat off the master bedroom with French doors leading out, and this was the perfect time to set up for that! We decided to add a large French door in the center of the wall and take out the window. Yall! WHAT. A .GAME. CHANGER!!!
We are so grateful to Lowe’s for providing the French doors for this portion of our project. They are actually off the shelf primed and ready to paint! They are a great ready-to-install budget friendly option and they were just what this space needed! They bring in so much light and completely elevate the space. The bed will now move to the opposite wall providing for a completely new layout, which we are really excited about as well.
Alongside the addition of doors and taking out the window the team also scraped the popcorn ceiling and installed recessed lighting throughout. Between the new door and the new lights this room will have no shortage of light sources!
At the moment things are just a mess and look as though there is no end in sight, but this is just the ugly behind-the-walls part. The important part. The team is moving really fast and by next week we will start to see both spaces really start taking shape. I’m also headed to Memphis on Monday (yay!) so next week’s post will have lots of details about all the new additions that will be transforming these rooms. Sun tunnels will have been installed (those went in today!), all the tile in the bathroom, lighting, the vanity, furniture, etc.
These next two weeks will be jam packed with all the fun pretty stuff . We’ve been keeping you updated daily with behind the scenes live updates on IG stories, so make sure you’re following us both over there. And make sure you pop over to Carmeon’s blog for even more details about the renovation, including how its all effecting how she and her family are living through it!
Alrighty friends, that’s it for this week. There’s so much happening with everyone’s spaces so be sure you’re following along with all of us as we continue our 6 week renovation journeys.
