Kitchen Conundrum: Wall of Shame

Hi Everyone!

Three days in a row! I’m pretty proud of myself right now. I’m sure you’ve noticed things are kinda different on the blog. I’m trying to upgrade it a bit so I decided just to keep things simple for the time being. I have no idea what I’m doing so it should be a pretty interesting process.

Speaking of not knowing what to do…we’ve got a little problem going on in the kitchen. I like to call it the Wall of Shame. Its a big empty space on one side of the kitchen in between the pantry and the hallway entrance. It’s sad. It’s lonely. It’s empty. But not for long. We finally figured out what we are going to do with it.

At first I thought I might like to use it as a drink serving/bar area. I fell in love with idea of using an antique sideboard and putting up floating shelves to house wine glasses and such. My thoughts were somewhere along these lines:

But after evaluating how we actually use our kitchen I changed my mind. It just wouldn’t be very practical for our lifestyle. We would likely hardly ever actually use it. We have our drinks and wine in a small corner of our pantry now and it works for us. I have plans for pretty organization of that down the road.

What our active family would actually USE is a family hub/message board area. Between 2 kids in different schools, activities, parties, permission slips, grocery lists, etc. we could really use a pretty place to keep it all together.

Ive been wanting to incorporate chalkboard paint into the kitchen for sometime and I found some really inspiring images to get the creative juices flowing. These are a few of my faves:

I love that they are all oversized, but not an entire wall. I’m still debating as to whether I want it framed or not, but I’m leaning more toward the framed look.

I taped an outline of where it would go so we could get a visual.

Naomi and I both really love it so this project is a go. I finally have an excuse to use that can of chalkboard paint I have stashed in the garage “just in case”!
