Hi Everyone!
Happy Monday. I hope you all had a great weekend!
If you’ve been with me for a while, you know Mondays are not my favorite day of the week…at all. While I’m grateful for my 9-5, Ive been doing some serious soul searching lately and have been doing a lot of thinking about what I really want out of life in the career department. Changes may soon be coming.
Like so many others, its incredibly hard for me to head back into the corporate jungle fresh off of a wonderfully relaxing and fun filled weekend. Couple that with the fact that I am NOT a morning person and its a recipe for a potential disaster. But, nowadays I have a secret weapon: the coffee corner, AKA, my happy place.
Random Shavonda fact: I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was 29! My parents didn’t drink coffee so I never grew up around it. In fact, I didn’t even know how to make it until I started my current job. Sad, I know, but true. Since mornings here in AHFOC are crazy hectic I could really use a little pick me up. So, after doing a little research on some of the benefits of having a cup of morning coffee, I decided to incorporate it into my morning routine.
I’m one of those “no appliances allowed out on the counter” kind of people so I had plenty of space to work with, but I decided upon a small corner I almost never use.
So, I just took some hooks and a few really inexpensive storage jars and threw together a little coffee/tea station.
Since Naomi isn’t a coffee drinker we keep tea close at hand as well. I usually have a cup of tea before bed so this space has become one of the most used areas of our kitchen now. You may notice in the very first picture that the creamer has been moved out of the jar and replaced with sugar. I’m still trying to find a permanent storage solution for the creamer but in the interim they either end up in a bowl or corralled in the cake stand. I also recently discovered that storing coffee in glass containers may not be the best solution since it really shouldnt be exposed to too much light so Ill probably be changing that up as well.

Do you have a coffee corner incorporated into your kitchen? How is yours configured? What helps you get going in the mornings? Until next time….
XoXo-Shavonda

The coffee station is perfection! We are so stepping up a spot when we move back home, to avoid those pesky Starbucks costs and I want to be a little Barista at home and make my family and friends yummy drinks. So crazy you didn’t start drinking coffee until recently. I never dank it until my mid 20s my BFF makes the best coffee ever and she got my hooked 🙂

Good morning Shavonda! I have a question. How do you REALLY like the Brew Station coffee maker? We have to get a new coffee maker and I was looking at the review for the Brewstation actually last week but they weren’t good at all.
My parents have one of those horribly expensive italian stations ($1000plus) not an option for us, so I’m searching for a very cheap option 🙂

Hi Julia. Ok, so here’s the no BS real deal review of the coffee maker a la Shavonda. I really really love it. For me it’s perfect. Here’s why: I too was looking for a much more affordable option compared to other single cup brewers such as the Keurig. Not saying anything against them, just saying I was lookin for an alternative. As someone who is a pretty novice coffee drinker this machine does everything I need it to and then some. One of the bonuses about it, to me, is that is has the option to brew either a single cup or a full pot. Super convenient when we are entertaining or have overnight guests. Another plus for me is that it does not take the k-cups. I actually love being able to use my fav ground coffee. A really unique feature for me is that it has a selection that lets you specify if you’re only brewing 1-4 cups and the machine adjusts for it. You can also select if you want a bolder brew. Another plus in my book is that it’s really quiet. The only way I can ever tell its on is when I smell the aroma of coffee. It also lets you choose how long you want to keep the coffee warm….up to 6 hours. After that, the machine automatically shuts off. It’s really easy to program and it even has an option to make iced coffee. I haven’t tried that function yet. I like the sleek look of it and its easy to clean as well. I know this is wordy, but these are the things they don’t tell you on the back of the box! I know everyone has their own experience with products and have different expectations out of them and for me this was a good investment. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks Shavonda! I also want to have one where I can brew with ground coffee and not pods. Some of the reviews online said theirs was leaking but I guess you don’t have a problem with it. Sounds like it’s a pretty sweet deal.
I might have to go get one for us. It did help a lot!

You’re welcome. And no, I don’t have an issue with mine leaking.
