Hi Everyone!
Thank you all so much for all the wonderful comments I received after yesterday’s kitchen makeover reveal. I’m constantly amazed and humbled by all of your support. You guys are the best.
Today we are revisiting the guest room. In my latest guest room post the room looked like this:
And the to do list looked a little something like this:
*Purchase bedding
*Purchase mirrors for above each headboard
*Wall sconces above beds (for individual reading lights)
*Purchase Rug
*Wall Art
*Thrift a small chair for the corner
*Change color of luggage rack
*Change color of bar cart
*Come up with alternate window treatment
*Purchase Accessories
*Polish the brass lamp
Well I’m here today with a quick update on some progress. I’ve made a few changes over the past couple weeks. As of now the room looks like so:
Yep, the bar cart went bye bye. I swear that thing must have displacement syndrome by now. Its constantly moving from room to room. I just really really felt like my $5 Craigslist score campaign nightstand belongs in here. Its really the perfect size, and scale for the space.
You’ll also notice the brass lamp is gone now, too. Since I replaced the bar cart, which occupied less visual space than the nightstand, I decided to soften things up a bit with a clear lamp. It, too, takes up very little visual space where physical space is quite limited. I found it in the as-is section at Ikea for half off! The brass lamp has been moved to the family room. Yes, folks that is the placeholder pic in the frame with the bar code still attached. Don’t judge, people!
As you can see even after a good scrubbing, the nightstand is still a bit scruffy looking. It’ll be getting a new coat of paint once I figure out what color I want to go with.
I’m really diggin the new sheets, too. I purchased these at Target. I love the graphic hexagon pattern and the way the colors compliment the wall color. Since Ive opted for patterned sheets, I will more than likely scout out a solid duvet cover.
The last thing I picked up for the room was this storage rack
Originally I planned on putting a small chair in this corner of the room, but I really think this is a better use of space. I chose this style because, again, it takes up less visual space than a solid dresser or chest of drawers and because it provides for endless styling opportunities.
I plan on using it primarily to create a “convenience corner” for our guest which will house extra towels, soap, lotion, toiletries, etc. With the new changes, the to do list now looks a bit like this:
*Purchase bedding duvet covers
*Purchase mirrors for above each headboard
*Wall sconces above beds (for individual reading lights)
*Purchase Rug
*Wall Art
*Change color of bar cart nightstand
*Come up with alternate window treatment
*Purchase Accessories for convenience corner
*Revamp bed frames
*Purchase light fixture
*Purchase wall clocks
All in all I think the room is coming along nicely. I can’t wait to add more layers of depth to the space with a few richer color choices with the upcoming additions. I’m thinking this room needs some black and perhaps some navy, or possibly emerald, too. And you know I’ll find a way to sneak in some neon!
So what do you think? Have any color suggestions for the lampshade, nightstand, or duvet covers? I’d love to hear. Until next time….

Throughout the grand design of things you actually get a B- just for effort. Where you confused everybody ended up being on all the facts. You know, people say, the devil is in the details… And it could not be more correct at this point. Having said that, allow me say to you what exactly did do the job. Your article (parts of it) is actually pretty persuasive which is possibly the reason why I am making the effort to opine. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. Next, whilst I can certainly notice a leaps in reason you make, I am not confident of just how you appear to unite your ideas which make the actual conclusion. For right now I will, no doubt subscribe to your issue but hope in the foreseeable future you actually connect the facts much better.

Hey Shavonda, I’m featuring this paint color today! LOVE the yellow. You picked a great color, and I definitely think it would look awesome with the black, navy, or emerald accents you mentioned.!

Loving the colors in this space! Question, are those IKEA bed frames? I had them in mind for my boys room and my husband thought they were too small. Would love to hear your thoughts on them!
Ps,
Where have I been??? I totally love your blog and your home! Your use of color is wicked!

Hey lady! First let me say Thank You! And thanks so much for stopping by. I love your blog too!
Second-Yes ma’am, those are Ikea beds. We have found them to work really well for us in the space. They are on the smaller/shorter scale, but for us they are perfect since our room has major space constraints. You can make them appear taller by using a boxspring and perhaps by adding castors. We are just using the slats with a mattress. We have had several guests spend the night since purchasing them, both men and women, short, tall, big, little, and they have all said the were comfortable and slept well. Plus you just can’t beat the price!
I do have plans to amp them up a bit with either paint or fabric. I’m not sure what you’re looking to do aesthetically, but I think these are very versatile. Overall they are a sturdy, basic bed and they could definitely work for your boys room. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks again for popping in.

Oh! Emerald in this space would look beautiful! 🙂 I wanted to paint a small dresser in this color but I let go of the idea because it wouldn’t go with the rest of my master bedroom but in this guest room it would pop! 🙂

It’s very nice and bright! I agree with you , I think the campaign nightstand looks much better there than the bar cart! 😉 I love your white storage rack! (like you said some navy or emerald would both look great in the space, one of these colors would ground the space beautifully!)

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’m really really leaning toward the emerald. Something deep and rich. Thanks so much for the feedbacl
