Hi Everyone!
Happy Friday my loves! I thought I’d finish off the week with a bit of eye candy. Who’s up for it?
Lately Ive been…. ah who am I kidding…I’m ALWAYS obsessed with kitchens. While we will be in our home for many years to come, this isn’t our forever home so we will eventually move one day. That means one day Ill be looking for THE kitchen.
Ive been compiling a list of all the features I want my forever kitchen to have. There are a handful of features that Ive determined are absolute must haves including a wall of windows, french doors leading out to small outdoor space that will house a small kitchen garden, all floating upper shelves, and lower drawers instead of cabinets.
Other features are still up for debate. I’m really open to many things and often run across ideas I would never have considered before, like the idea of the dining table being incorporated into the kitchen layout. Our home now has the dining/kitchen area all together, but the spaces are defined a bit and our kitchen has an island. Now that I think about it, my grandmothers kitchen (which is still exactly the same as it was when my dad was a kid, by the way) had the table in the center of her kitchen. I remember many many meals at that table. My grandmas house is tiny and she doesn’t actually have a dining room, so her table is there out of function and because there’s literally no other option.
Even still there’s something to be said about having the dinner table situated in the heart of the home. These spaces make it something to seriously think about:

Hola Shavonda!

I’m with you Sarah! Our dining table is right next to the island but I just isn’t the same!

I love the idea of having a table at the heart of the kitchen! It creates such a feeling of community and warmth. But I am SO dependent on my island for food prep I’m not sure I could give it up! I have my dining table right next to my island so I think that’s a pretty good compromise but it just doesn’t look the same as those lovely images you picked out! 😉

I think the table in the kitchen is pretty as long as the kitchen is large enough…my only issue is while I’ve embraced my small dinning nook is not being able to have large dinner parties for the Holidays

Love a table in the kitchen. It reminds me totally of my stays in France at my ex-boyfriends family’s home. They had a huge antique table and a fireplace in their 200 year old home where we would all eat in the evening and hang out for hours. It was so pretty and cozy.
I don’t see any disadvantages here at all.
Have a great weekend.

You’re so right Julia, it totally reminds me of the family kitchens of Italy and France. They are such amazing spaces…especially with a fireplace!
