Hi Everyone!!
Happy Friday my loves!!!
A while ago while trolling for inspiration for a statement wall for our foyer I came across Sarah Greenman’s amazing DIY she did in her entry.
She was inspired by the amazingly talented Jamie Meares:
I was instantly in love with the painted circles. I loved how graphic and bold they looked in both spaces. I really wanted to create the same look in our entryway, but I didn’t want to just straight up copy it either. So I decided to use it as inspiration and duplicate the look in the form of window panels for our dining room.
This project was extremely easy, fun, and relatively inexpensive. Heres how I did it:
For the curtains I purchased a pair of Lenda panels from Ikea. I picked the 118″ length for $34.99.
I had some acrylic paint on hand and I picked up some fabric medium from Michaels.
Before I began I prewashed the panels, dryed, and layed them flat
I mixed the paint and fabric medium in a 1 to 1 ratio and got started making the circles. For this process I literally just randomly drew cirlces. I wanted them to pretty much all overlap at some point, but those were the only parameters I set. The process was really organic, and as you can see some are very large and others are small.
It took about 2 hours to complete both panels. I let them dry overnight and hung them using electrical conduit from Home Depot. Since Im not a fan of the hoops, I cut them off and used drapery clip rings to hang them.
Im still trying to figure out what Im going to do for the finials so they will remain as they are for now.
I absolutley love the way they look in the space. They add such a fun and graphic element to the mix.
Another project down, many more to go! So tell me, have you ever considered painting curtains? Have an awesome weekend.
Until next time…

Between the great curtains both you and Mrs DeVore (followed link from her blog to your project) painted, I hope my Ikea curtains will be sporting a pattern very soon. I’ve been a fan of the abstract circle art for quite some time and love how you interpreted that idea on your curtains. Does it matter if the paint is matte or gloss? Glad I found your blog, newest follower now too. Happy and safe 4th. Robin
Shavonda says
Hi Robin! Welcome to my blog family! So glad to have you! I don’t believe it matters whether the paint is matte or gloss. It would just have a visual difference I believe. I actually think it would be really cool to have the visual interest of a gloss paint against the texture of the Lenda panels. Have a great holiday weekend!

Hi Becky! Thanks so much for stopping by. I found that the fabric medium actually had no effect on the consistency of the acrylic paint. Once I mixed them up really well I didn’t notice any difference in how easily the paint applied to the fabric compared to other projects I’ve done not using the medium. It could be compared to using floetrol additive in your latex paint. It affects the way the paint works, but not the consistency. I hope that helps, and I hope you come by a visit again:)

Great minds think alike – these turned out soo good. QQ – did you find that the fabric medium watered down the paint at all or did it actually make it go on smoother?
