Hi Everyone!!
My oh my its been a while! I hope you all don’t mind I took a little reprieve. Ive missed you guys. Summer is coming to an end, kids are heading back to school, and the daily routine is about to make a major comeback. I hope you all are enjoying these last couple weeks of fun and sun.
You know what sucks? Compromise. You know what sucks more than compromise? Painting cabinets. You know what sucks more than painting cabinets? Working with a paint you discover you really don’t like halfway through the paint job. The hallway revamp is taking way longer than I anticipated, and we’ve run into all these things in the process.
We took an impromptu trip to SoCal to visit my sister in law last week which put the project on hold for a bit. Here’s a reminder of what the space looked like before
For the space I really wanted to step out of my norm and go light and bright. I originally wanted colored cabinets, but Naomi was a little freaked by the idea so we compromised by adding color to the ceiling. I also took out the middle section of doors to create open shelving just as we did in the kitchen. We chose Behr Dolphin Fin for the walls, and Behr Youthful Coral for the ceiling. The cabs were painted in Sherwin Williams Pro Classic (water base alkyd formula). I just used the pure white paint right outta the can with no color added.
So far, I really love how things are coming together. I’m on the hunt for a fun, graphic paper for the back of the open cabinet. If you know a good source, please shoot me a comment.
Still to do:
-Add hardware to the cabinets ( I’m leaning toward either clear/glass or black)
-Paper/Stencil open cabinet
-Replace recessed lights with hanging pendants
-Backsplash
-Kilim runner
-Décor and styling
So tell me, what do you think? What are you guys working on right now?

Hi, I’m new to your blog and I’ve been reading your posts on your different painting projects. I have some questions for you. After using Benjamin Moore Aura and Advance in your kitchen and then using Sherman Williams for the hall cabinets, which of them would you recommend for beauty and durability? Or would you use oil based paint if you had it to do again? Also, have you tried the enamel paint in a spray paint? You’ve definitely inspired me to try oil based paint and I think I’m going to try it on some bar stools I’m working on…I’m just trying to decide if I should use the brush on or the spray. You’ve done such a good job on all of your projects! Thanks for sharing!

Love the painted ceiling! Wish we could do that but ours are textured. And they suck.

Wow, what a difference. I love the coral on the ceiling and think it would look fab on the back of the open cabinet, perhaps with a stencil.

Bringing energy and fun to a hallway isn’t always the easiest but sure does look like you’ve got it all figured out! The reveal should be fun 🙂

When I first painted my kitchen I used Dolphin Fin and it looked PURPLE. And not nice purple, either. I wound up covering it up and painting stripes in the playroom with it instead. And there it looks nice and grey. As it does in your hallway 🙂
