Hi Everyone!!
Happy Monday friends. I hope you all had a fun weekend.
Its still really warm in my neck of the woods so I took advantage of the 80 degree weather by knocking out a quick warm weather project. We have a new front door color guys.
After I determined the existing paint was latex I was able to set a plan in action for painting the door. First I washed it down with soap and water and let it dry. Next I used a deglosser to sand the surface and prep for paint.
Because I was painting latex over latex, and I was using a paint and primer in one specifically designed for exterior use, I did not prime the door first. I painted the door on the hinges and just taped everything off before starting.
Before I started on the door, I had already determined I wanted to change the hardware. The builder grade brass was showing quite a bit of wear.
The hardware was in great working condition and I didn’t want the expense of replacing it so I opted to spay it. We after deliberating between black and nickel I decided black would best compliment the new teal color. Plus I felt the nickel would get lost among all the beige. I chose to go with a hammered finish for a little textural interest.

Wow! Such a difference! That blue is such a happy color. And such a clever idea of painting the hardware while still attached to the door! I painted my front door (while still on the hinges) but left the hardware alone since I didn’t want to mess with removing it. (I’m now going to add it to my never ending project list!)

I’m working on the front door entry as well, we have a full covered country porch at the entry and that stupid ceiling needs scraped (ugh) and painted. I suspect I’ll be at it all week, hubby better be ready for the neck massages at night. If I can beat the weather (temps) changing here, I also plan on painting the front door. What color … teal! … great minds think alike 🙂 What a fun color you two choose and I really like how the painted black hardware grounds the door color.

I LOVE it. Huge impact for a small project. Painting the hardware was genius too, it totally pops against the door color.
