Hi Everyone!
Congratulations Crystal Rafuse! You are the lucky winner of the beautiful Studded The Bossi Theit camera bag. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine. Be on the look out for an email from me. Thank you all again so much for entering.
Happy Monday loves. I hope you all had a happy and restful weekend. Let me just take a moment and say how much I seriously love you guys. Naomi and I both really enjoyed reading all of your comments and responses to my last post. It was so great to hear each of your individual thoughts and perspectives. I mean I had no idea so many of you had considered downsizing or, in some cases, already enjoy living in small homes.
While I think in general most people love having space to really stretch out in, especially those with growing families, I also think its great to see more and more people embracing, preferring to, and truly enjoying living in smaller spaces. You gotta admit, there’s something intriguing about a well designed small space, isn’t there? I mean I can’t be the only one who walks into the “living in 320 sq ft” showroom at Ikea and is amazed! Even if its not as extreme as an entire house encompassing the size of some people’s walk-in closets, its still truly inspiring to see spaces used really efficiently.
Speaking of efficient uses of space, one of my favorite ways to maximize space is through banquette seating. They are making a major come back and I think we will probably see more and more of them now as small space living becomes more prevalent. I think they are the perfect solution for dining spaces with minimal square footage, and in larger areas they can be really elegant. Here are a few of my favorites

My parents had banquets and I wish I would have brought one back with me, when I moved from Germany to the US. Lately I keep looking at my bay window area and thing a banquet would look very nice in that spot. I may get my friend to help me with the carpentry. She is more experienced that me.
I did want to ask you a question: what type of color and brush/ roller did you use on your cabinets published in BHG? My next project will be painting my kitchen kabinets and I fell in love with your paint choices.

Love that last one especially – there’s something really cozy about a banquette.

Yes, yes, YES! Absolutely adore banquettes. My great-grandfather, who was an upholsterer, built a custom one in the house I lived in til I was 10 and I have been obsessed with them ever since. I’m building one in our new house as soon as I can squeeze the project in!

Down the line hopefully very soon, we plan on adding banquette seating into our dining room…can’t wait for this to happen 🙂

I’ve actually always enjoyed living in smaller spaces as long as they are well built though, that is my trade off. I never really thought of banquet tables as an option before but those first two have me reconsidering….
