Hi Everyone!
Let’s have a little convo about my favorite room in the house today, eh? The kitchen. I love kitchens, most specifically kitchen design. When I was in the Arts Academy I determined I wanted to focus on Kitchen and Bath design and that interest has never faded.
Last summer I was introduced to the concept of “the cobbled together” kitchen by one of my favorite bloggers, Camille of The Vintique Object. I was immediately intrigued by the idea of “handcrafting” a functional kitchen from things found and brought it. It sort of reminds me of pioneer days. Of a time back when things were really simple and function was key. When tables functioned as countertops, and hutches, freestanding chests, and shelves provided storage.
I think there’s a way to marry modern convenience (can we say Blue Star range, anyone) with primitive concepts that results in beautifully curated kitchens.

I am really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog like this one these days..

Hi Lady! How nice to discover that you’ve mentioned my blog. Thank you. I’ve been bad about keeping up with blogging and blog reading. Still trying to get myself together after the big move to the small house. Sorry for the delay! Still as in love as ever with these unfitted kitchens.

Love these spaces, and I especially love adding wood tones to a white kitchen.

I love the rustic look that is really popular these days. I like that it’s more about “using what you have” rather than buying new. Saves money, forces you to be creative. It’s great.

Hi Shavonda, I found an article about you on Better Homes and Gardens. Congrats to you. I love how you did your kitchen in the article. I also love all the kitchens in this post, too. I think my two favorites are the first and third pictures.

Hey there, fellow Sacramentan! I just found you via your spot in BHG. Congrats on that! I’m lovin’ this cobbled together look and wish my kitchen was large enough for such aesthetic playfulness.

I might have pinned all those photos too. Love!

That’s totally more inline with my aesthetic as well. I especially like that top-most picture. The only problem I could see would be ensuring that all your found surfaces can be prepped properly & sealed so its a good work surface in the kitchen. But after that, I’m totally in love with this.

I love the kitchen with the red chair – minus the red chair lol… I love that picture leaning against the brick. The shelving unit is awesome!!

Ooh I’ve got kitchens on the brain, too since we’re trying to plot our kitchen reno! What I love about your inspiration pics, you pretty much summed up. Modern conveniences in a kitchen that looks like it’s been around forever–in a timeless, classic sort of way–are right up my alley!
PS. Loved your comment on my recent post, as always. #soulsisters
