Hi Everyone!
Riddle me this loves, who decides its a smart idea to put a ceiling fan in a kitchen?
Now before the fan police pull me over and issue me all the citations, let me say this…. I guess I sorta kinda get how it could be a good idea. Like say, if you don’t have any type of exhaust system in place. It would totally make sense to pair a ceiling fan with an open door or window to release heat and cooking smells. BUT if you just happened to catch a buy 3 get 1 free special on ceiling fans and decide the 4th one should totally go in the kitchen, that’s not exactly registering with me. I’m pretty sure the latter was the case in our bungalow.
The fan has got to go. I am not a fan of the fan. Since the day we moved in I’ve been thinking about what id like to replace it with. There are so many great options out there, but my fav by far is a sputnik. I’ve loved them for years, and I especially love them in the kitchen.
To me one seemed out of place in our last home, but the bungalow was built right round the sputnik era so it feels like a natural choice. Our kitchen ceilings aren’t very high and I like that they can be hung semi-flush. I think they make sure a gorgeous statement in a kitchen. These beauties can be uber pricey, though, and can easily set you back thousands of dollars. I’ve done a bit of digging and sourced a few that come in under $400.

Seriously that copper one from Lucent Light Shop is just GORGEOUS and you guys know my affections for copper in the kitchen run deep. How are you feeling about sputnik’s in the kitchen? Until next time loves…

We have a fan in our kitchen too (and we had one in our dining room of all places that I promptly replaced) and I just think it’s so odd. For some reason I picture the fan flinging dust everywhere, even though that’s probably ridiculous 😀 Love those sputnik light fixtures!!!

OMG we have one in our dining room too! UGH! Im planning a fun lighting solution in there so it wont be around for too much longer. And its not ridiculous at all because it DOES fling dust everywhere. Its the worst. Especially when you have pets, allergies and are slightly asthmatic.

Love your kitchen lighting inspiration, # 2 & #4 are fantastic…and I totally loathe ceiling fans, no thank you ever in my house, that’s what windows and AC’s are for lol!!!

Thanks sweet friend. I realized last night that #1 is the same one you have in your master, which you know I absolutely love. Matter of fact, I just love your whole darned house sweets. Its just amazing.

I am right there with you. My dad when he owned our home, went ceiling fan crazy. I have just one more to remove…the one in the kitchen. Agree, it is a bad idea and really doesn’t serve a purpose in there. Love the sputnik in the kitchen look 🙂

Im telling you there mustve been a killer sale on fans sometime in the last 10 years! Cant wait to see what you choose for your kitchen friend.

we are so happy with the light we got for the playroom which is your 2 choice. 🙂 and we had a fan in our kitchen, too….. it went BUH BYE!

Love them! I like the top 2 choices but the copper one is pretty special too.

Man o man the copper one is just beautiful. Im really into copper accents in the kitchen, so I was immediately drawn to it. Plus I like that its a flush mount option which is good for our ceiling height.
