Hi Everyone!
Lets talk more about small space style shall we. In my last post I talked about using dark colors in small spaces and today I want to touch on maximalist style. I absolutely love spaces that are full. Full of color, texture, pattern, etc. In a small space the immediate thought may be to adopt a “less is more” approach to curating it, BUT minimalism is not for everyone.
In the words of Robert Venturi, For some of us less is well…a bore. I don’t mean to offend anyone by this. Don’t get me wrong, there is absolute beauty in minimalism, Its just not my personal style. In fact minimalist spaces give me anxiety. They are uncomfortable for me to be in and I’m always left with the overwhelming sense that something is missing.
Just because your square footage is minimal, it doesn’t mean you cant fill that space with a maximalist approach. Over sized furniture pieces, large-scaled or lots of art, layers of textures and patterns, multiple colors, textiles, and impressive collections can all be both effective and incredibly beautiful in small spaces. They become great focal points and enhance the cozy. Plus I love the idea of being “enveloped” by the things you love, and that bring you joy when you see them. I’ve been pretty intentional about sticking to the William Morris ideal of having nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful, but as maximalist at heart the waters are pretty hazy for me. I mean honestly all the things are beautiful and useful. All. The. Things.
With that being said I’ve rounded up a few of my fav really inspiring small spaces that take décor and styling to the max
Maximalism isn’t just for grand estates and spacious casas loves. Don’t be scurred to go there in a small space. Until next time…

LOL. All that stuff makes me nervous. I like it when it is in someone else’s home but would be a puddle of goo if I were forced to live in such an environment. Maybe I need some couch time? So all you maximalist, enjoy for us need-to-control minimalist. It can be simply beautiful when arrange artistically.

I totally agree. Minimalism gives me anxiety! I feel like I’m in a home staged for sale, or something. I love everything about that last bedroom!
