Hi Everyone!
Let’s talk small spaces, friends. Ok so you’ve heard my take on using dark colors and channeling your inner maximalist in small spaces, and today I wanna touch a bit on another subject that seems to be a typical no-no in limited space: using oversized/large-scale furniture and décor.
That’s right friends, its OK to literally think big when choosing pieces for your small spaces. It may seem like the smart thing to do is choose small pieces to go in your small space to make said small space look big, BUT here’s the thing…small+small +small=you guessed it… small. I like to call this the dollhouse effect. You start filling your space with small pieces and something just feels off. That’s because you’re decorating with Barbie and Ken in mind. You are not Barbie or Ken, unless of course your name is Barbie or Ken, then you are…literally…but we aren’t speaking literals here friends.
Sometimes what a small space needs is something big to ground it. To give it interest. To give it a little tension. I, for one, love a bit of tension in a space. Not everyone shares this view with me, but I think the most interesting spaces have something about them. And a something black in them. This is my design philosophy. But I digress. The point I’m trying to make here is that going oversized in an undersized space is not only Ok, but in many cases its preferred. You’d be surprised how much larger a space can feel by choosing a larger piece instead of reaching for something small. What do you think?
Until next time….

I’m a sucker for a couch in the dining room and upholstery in pink!

Yes!!!! Totally agree, just one oversized piece can just transform a space! (Although the light fixture in my bedroom is so large, I’m really not sure about it STILL lol) 😉 xxx

I LOVE the fixture in your bedroom. You better not even THINK about touching it!!
