Hi Everyone!
Happy Thursday loves. Its beginning to look a lot like Spring outside and I’m SO excited to be experiencing our first Spring in the cottage bungalow. We’ve been enjoying beautiful warm days and its had me in the mood to welcome Spring around the house a bit. We’re still working on quite a few projects, so I decided to focus on one small area for the time being.
I challenged myself to a quick and easy entryway refresh on a super small budget…like a “less than $20 cause sista has other priorities right now” budget. I’m happy to say I managed to make it happen.
I changed out the lampshade with a black one I scored on clearance at Target for $5, I swapped out the standard knobs on the shoe cabinet for some I found at HomeGoods for $12.99,
and I brought in a basket I was gifted to house Callie’s toys and treats. (Stay tuned for a fun giveaway from the shop owner coming soon)
We don’t have a legit foyer so this teeny area in our home is all about function first. It smacks ya as soon as you walk in the door, so I try my darndest to keep it from looking a hot mess.
I’ve been on the hunt for some side tables for months with no luck just yet. Once I find them the lamp will move…speaking of lamps…Im not married to this one, so if I stumble upon something better that’ll change too. And speaking of changes..THAT SOFA! Uuuuggggh. It’s the worst. I feel like its sucking all the awesome right outta my life right now. But wait.. this isn’t a post about the things I want to change now is it!!? I digress. That’s another post for another day.
Sooo how about you? Have you spruced up any areas of your home for Spring? Until next time loves….

Love the door and wall colors! I notices that you base boards are painted the same as your wall color. I just saw a tip in Better Homes and Garden’s to not always do the go-to white or stained molding.

Hi Meli! Thank you. Painting baseboards the same as the wall color is a fav look of mine, especially in a small space where you want your eye to continue to the floor or throughout the space. This trick gives the elusion of more space, and I love that I prefer it. I think it offers a high end look. White, or different colored molding create pretty contrast, but it also stops the eye.:)

Thanks for your reply. That’s something to consider in a small space, i.e. the trick of having more space. I am moving to a two bedroom condo <1000 SF for a family of 3 and will keep that in mind while I decorate.

Ooooh this is so classically lovely! I love the blue & white jar, that awesome brass dish and the tassels on the baskets that kind of give it a little bit of boho edge. Okay, yeah, I like all of it.
Also, totally get feeling like one piece of furniture is ruining everything but I promise I’ve always thought it looked lovely all styled up! 😉 xxx
Shavonda says
Thank you Kim. Youre so sweet.

I know when you hate a piece of furniture it’s like al you can see. Honestly, I thought the sofa looked great since you styled it so well! (It’s like instead of body dismorphia, decorators get “room dismorphia”. We are hyper focused on the one thing we don’t like but others just don’t see it as a problem!)
Shavonda says
Thanks chica. You are so right, though. I promise that darned sofa is all I can see. Nevermind all the other great stuff…its just that one darned element.

I have done basically nothing to welcome spring into my house yet. I love your entry nook – so chic, people would never guess how hard-working it is!
Shavonda says
OMG Jen your entry is already so freakin fabulous. And thank you. It really is. Id be a hot mess without it…literally. My kids shoes are cray!

Where did you find your window treatments?
Shavonda says
Hi there! The window treatments are from Ikea actually. I found them in the as-is section a couple years ago:)
Sam says
Thanks! They are lovely. 🙂

By the way, do you know where I could find some reasonably priced roman shades?
Shavonda says
Roman shades are tricky for me. I actually am having a friend help me make some because Im lost:)
