Hi Everyone!
Happy Monday and Happy April friends! Spring is finally here and we’ve been enjoying fabulous weather recently, so its time for me to make good on my intentions to focus on some exterior projects around #thecottagebungalow. The list of projects is pretty lengthy so I figure Id start small by finishing up something that’s been almost 2 years in the making-installing exterior lights on the garage.
Back in 2016 along with having the bungalow painted we also had our garage completely rewired. There was a super sketchy and totally illegal electrical situation happening where somewhere along the way someone jimmy rigged some wires to pull power from the house into the garage. It was not safe. I was also a red flag item on our inspection paperwork when we were in the buying phase of the house. It had to be fixed.
We got new updated electrical run -{the correct and legal way}- into the garage and that included updating the wiring for new exterior garage lights. They’ve been sitting empty all this time. A travesty, I know. Also not legal. I’ve been meaning to find lights and install them for the longest, but it just always fell to the bottom of the priority list. When I received an offer to partner with Lamps Plus I knew it was the perfect opportunity to finally handle it. I’ve been a fan of Lamps Plus for quite a while so I was already very familiar with the brand and I knew they would have lots of great options to choose from.
Before I got lost down the rabbit hole of choices, I knew there were a few considerations I had to keep in mind. First was size. Because of the placement of our fence against the garage there is a limit to what size fixture we can opt for. Additionaly we are contending with overall placement. Where the gutters are and the height at which the wiring is also limits options.
The other consideration to make is style. We already have fixtures at the front door and garage entry door on the other side of the fence so I needed something that would compliment them without competing with them because we don’t have the room to acommodate that style in the new fixtures.
(disregard the dust)
Also, Im not looking for them to necessarily be showstoppers. I almost just kind of want them to fade into the background and be functional, but not like “hey look at me”. With that it mind I took to the site and found my top 3 options I felt could work:
This one I like for both the shape and the overall look. Its simple and modern and works will with the overall style of our house.
This one I liked, again, for its size and shape. It feels very “cottage” to me so I think it would also work well.
This one is a classic barn style and is just proportioned enough to work. I also like that this one is a dusk to dawn sensored light.
There were sooo many options but these are the 3 that really stood out as good options. I did make a choice and have already ordered them and I cant wait for the to arrive. Im excited to show you which one I chose and I’ll be sharing that over on my IG, so make sure you pop over to see.
Sometimes its things like completing a project you’ve been putting off that sets the mometum for wanting to tackle those you’ve been dreaming of starting. Next up, clearing out the space for our potager garden.
Until next time friends..

Warm wishes from Bucharest, Romania! 🙂

I ike the first light. Second light to beachy and third light to country.

Hi Barbara! I definitely think option 1 is a great “works well with any style” option. 🙂

I like the 2nd and 3rd best; I like the softer lines. The Fallbrook definitely coordinates with the house light. Look forward to seeing which one you picked!
Also, I really like your envelope mailbox.

Looking classic and seems like, will complement any transitional outdoor space. Will add character by day and illumination by night. All the designs are really cute!

I actually have the Fallbrook lights and I love them! My house was built in 1952 and had a cheesy back porch light and no light at all by the door to the detached garage when I bought it in 2016. The house has the original wood shingle siding and is painted a dusty grey-blue with white trim, and the Fallbrook was the right size and gave the house a beachy vibe (even though I’m about 10 miles away). I think they’d coordinate great with your front porch lamp!

Hi Marla! Those were the only barn style light I felt could work in the area. Your home sounds delightful. I bet they look awesome on your house!
