Hi Everyone!
I have a long long overdue kitchen update for you guys today. I was browsing through the blog last week and realized I sorta left you guys in the lurch! The last time I popped in to talk about the kitchen is when I divulged my big miss. So I’m back with the second half of that story to tell you how I got things back on track.
When we last left off I’d decided that while the olivey grey color was pretty, it just wasnt working in the space. So, geared with my new inspiration I gave the cabinets a quick coat of primer and headed back to the paint store to get a few more samples.
I wasn’t looking for this specific color, but I was definitley looking for something with its depth that read much more moody. I narrowed it down to two colors: Hunter Green and Forest Green. Both by Benjamin Moore.
The colors were VERY similar, with just a slight difference in tone.
In the end I chose to go with Hunter Green. I just loved that it was a bit deeper than the Forest Green and I loved how it looked with the black hex tiles.
I gave the cabinets two coats in my go-to favorite paint for cabinets and furniture: Benjamin Moore Advance and I used Satin finish.
I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out! I LOVE them. I also sprayed the existing hardware with some black hammered finish spray paint I had in the garage.
This color is just so good! Theres so much depth to it and depending on the light it reads slightly different throughout the day. Sometimes it comes across almost black, while other times it reads a bit emerald.
Over the holidays Noami suprised me with some long time coveted copper pots and I cant even tell you how fabulous they look with the green cabinets. I use them every single day. They are such a joy to cook with. I dont mind the patina’d look they get, as thats just a sign they are being lovingly used, but when I want to shine them up again I just wash them with some Bar Keepers Friend and they are like brand new again!
I also exhanged the copper sputnik what was in here with a lighted copper pot rack which gives us even more great storage.
This space has slowly evolved over the almost 4 years we’ve been in this home. We add and take away as we need. Its given us the ability to great an incredibly intentional space that is very very functional and tailor made for the we use our home. We have just a few more things to do in here and it’ll be done!
Im sorry, again, that it took me so long to get this update out to you guys! Until next time friends….

GORGEOUS!!!! I remember seeing those tea towels on your insta awhile back so I googled and got here. 😉 Sadly, those bad boys are sold out but I am thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets and you’ve inspired me! What kind of prep work did you do to the cabinets? I hate prep! I guess I need to sand or is priming and the BM paint a go?

I’m here from YHL, too… And so relieved to find your style and attitude. Our little house must have been built right around the same time as yours, so I’m ecstatic — that kitchen!!! Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and family with us.

Hello Shavonda… First off, I hope that you are having a glorious day!
Your kitchen is absolutely beautiful, and I love your fearless use of color. The green you chose for the cabinets brings the space together and adds a level of depth and sophistication that might otherwise be lacking with a more neutral palette.
I just discovered your blog thanks to younghouselove and am so glad to have found you… I dig on your small-space boho style. I too live in a moderately sized house, and am looking forward to learning more from you about how to add drama and interest to my home without overwhelming its more intimate footprint.
Best to you and your family!

I LOVE this green! It looks great with the rest of the space. I looked at the post about the olive first (new reader) and thought I loved that color too, but this one knocks it out of the park! I’m SO inspired for my own kitchen. Our 1960 cabinets are stained a reddish brown, but have several places where the veneer is missing, so the previous owners painted those spots a dull brown that I guess was supposed to match the wood? I hate them, but we can’t afford new cabinets, so I’ve been thinking about what color I might paint them. Now I’m on the green train!! Thank you for the inspiration!
