Hi Everyone!
So we are mid summer and I’ve been basically enjoying every waking moment possible outside on the porch. My hanging chair and plant babies make for the perfect spot to enjoy coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night. It’s my favorite place to start and end my day.
I’m constantly visiting the nursery in search of the next bit of greenery to layer in, and every chance I get to add more plants to the party, I take it! I envision this area completely covered in plants from top to bottom and would love to have the lattice dripping in hanging vines and succulents. So I was really excited when the folks over at Planted Places sent over one of their succulent wall kits to experiment with. I’ve wanted to try my hand at creating a succulent wall planter for the longest so I dove right in within about 10 minutes of it being delivered.
Before I could even open it Planted Places already had 3 major things going for it: its a small business….local to my area(based in the pretty town of Los Gatos, CA)…..female owned. Totally my jam! I received the Wreath Succulent Frame Kit with the burnt coral plant collection.
The kit came with everything needed to build it….including the soil. The instructions were well written and very easy to follow.
The first step was to soak the moss that came in the wreath planter. I chose to spray mine with a water bottle so I didn’t make the mistake of drenching it to much.
While that soaked in a bit the next step was to water the succulents in their existing pots.
After that it was time to build the planter. I started by filling it with soil on top of the moss I soaked in the first step. You want to use regular potting soil for this as its better for the potting process. I used my go to Organic Patio Plus soil
Next I did a dry fitting of the plants in their pots until I got the layout I wanted for the final planting.
Once I decided where I wanted each plant I planted them in the soil. ans
The final step was to fill in the spaces around the plants with decorative moss., which was also included in the kit!
Once I was all done I carefully watered it down well and gently cleaned up any soil from around the order. After that I let it settle for a week and a half before hanging it up. This allows the plants to impact themselves in place a bit so when you hang it up it doesnt fall apart.
I LOVE the final product and I’m excited to see it grow and get bigger over time. It’s the perfect addition to my little oasis.
Planted Places has so many cute planter kit options to choose from and they make great gifts too. I love their zinc planter kits!
Have you ever built a succulent wall planter? Until next time…..
