Hi Everyone!
Alrighty friends its time I pop in with a little progress report. It’s been a few months since I shared our laundry room makeover I started over the summer and I’ve made a couple more updates since then. This space has seen such a big change in the 4 years since moving into our little bungalow and I’m so happy with how its taking shape.
So lets have a look at the space we started with one more time:
I’ve always been an advocate for slow decorating and allowing yourself time to really live in your spaces before making big changes. Some things, of course, don’t take time but others really do…and I truly believe you need to live in a space for a little while to really know how you need it to work for you. In the years since living in our home we’ve been making deliberate changes to help our limited square footage stretch as much as possible. The laundry room has been a slow evolution of that. I wanted a space that was bold and fun, and that made me feel inclined to at least attempt to do laundry. I also wanted it to be more than just a space to do laundry, but also one that would serve as an area for indoor gardening and plant propagation. After removing the water heater, adding wallpaper, putting in the dutch and french doors, and installing new lighting & blinds it was well on its way
One of the things I always planned to do to make the space much for functional was install a series of shelves. A set in the nook that once held the water heater and one under sink to hold my beloved plants.
The shelves were really easy and inexpensive to install using common pine boards and corner braces from Home Depot. I didn’t document the process, but all I did was have the boards cut down to size at the store.
I could’ve also easily done this at home with my miter saw. I then sanded, stained, and applied a poly top coat to the boards before putting them up. I wanted a color that was warm, but not too dark and that would also work well with the tones in the blinds. Golden Oak was the winner.
I love how they turned out and more so love the how practical they are.
I had some abstract art by Monica Lewis that I thought would be perfect in here and I LOVE the tone on tone look of the purple. Monica also makes great note cards and I can’t wait to order some!
I’m so happy with how its all coming together. It feels so much like me and it makes me smile every time I walk in. There’s still a few more things to do in here and I’d love to say it’ll get done in the next few weeks but who would I be kidding.
Still on the to do list:
- paint the dutch door trim and French door black
install a wall to wall shelf under the window-(will be used as a propagation center)- install a clothes drying bar
above the windowfrom ceiling - replace floors-(this will be done at the same time the kitchen floors get replaced)
install shelves in nook where water heater once was- wood for a folding surface on top of the machines.
- have piece of plexiglass cut for side wall next to sink (we haven’t had any issues all these months without it so this may not happen)
- DIY sink skirt-
(still contemplating this one. it may get nixed)-definitely doing this - replace closet door knob with glass
- better looking organization for cleaning supplies. I’m thinking of lining the copper wire baskets with fabric to hide them. I’d also love to get glass vessels for the detergent.
- find a rug
So that’s it for now. Until next time friends…
