Hi Everyone!
Alright friends so let’s talk sellers remorse. I’m one of those people who is a lover of collecting and keeping….especially when it comes to furniture. Even as a downsizer into a much smaller home there are a few pieces I don’t think I can ever bring myself to let go of. It drives Naomi crazy, but she knew what she was getting into when she married me!
So the thing about me and furniture is I have very specific pieces on my wish list that I’m always on the lookout for, and one those pieces is pretty much anything burlwood. I’m completely obsessed and am always looking for ways to incorporate it in to our home. I just can’t quit it. Like, ever. Take a look at this GORGEOUS etagere I spotted at Modern History during High Point Market this past fall
Can you even!? I lost it when I saw it.
I soooooo badly want a vintage burlwood dining table one day, and if we ever get around to adding on to #thecottagebungalow I will be expanding the size of our dining area just so I can get one large enough to seat 8-10. Ever since I came across this image years ago I’ve been hell bent on making it happen.
But I digress. Yes, burlwood is BAE and I had been looking for a way to add it to our home for the longest time when I came across a coffee table on Offer Up FOR FREE! You guys!!! I mean can you even with this…
It was slightly taller than I needed so I ended up cutting it down a bit and it was soooooooo good. (cue tears)
GAAAAAAHHHH it was perfection guys. But after about 2 years of living with it I wanted something with more of an open feel and swapped it out for our current table.
And while our current table is ok and I like the overall shape and scale of it, it just isn’t the same! It was a big mistake and I regret letting go if it every freakin day. I got rid of it before painting the walls black so I never even got a chance to see it in the space under different circumstances. I have a feeling it would have been MAGIC with the black walls.
I recently decided I want something that’s gonna make a bit more of a statement in here again and I just keep going back to how much I loved the look of the burlwood in this space. I would love to marry the look of the burl with the open feel of our existing table, or maybe even go with something round. I don’t know. I just know this table is much more basic than I’m feeling anymore. Here are a few that have caught my eye:
So there you have it. I’m sure we’ve all had that one thing we got rid of that almost immediately shattered our hearts into pieces. That gorgeous hunk of burl is mine. Please pray to the treasure hunting gawds that your girl is able to find another one because I’m still kicking myself over that one. So what about you? What’s your sellers remorse item?
Until next time friends…

I have a burl wood coffee table with a tiered base now. I’ve had it for years and love it to death. Unfortunately its not the right shape and size for the house I just bought :*(. Still love the burl wood and want it in the room so I have a dining table on my wishlist I’d like to buy eventually. I wish I could just shrink and stretch my coffee table, damn physics and reality.

I still have a large square burled wood Henredon coffee table I bought when I married a million years ago – had a designer come in years ago who told me it would be wonderful lacquered black. So glad I procrastinated and left it alone. This post has made me love it all over again. ?

I got nausea when i realized it was that gorgeous burlwood table that haunts you.. ugggghh.. i’d never let it go.. it was gorgeous. you’re very skillful at finding things, i’m sure the furniture angels will guide you in the right direction to find them. The styles you chose to look for are fabulous.. right now i’m living with the ultimate regret of letting go of my tulip table to my son.. ..uggghhhh. we had a tragic moment.. needless to say i’m table hunting.. it haunts me to no end..

Oh friend…trust me. I get super nauseous when I think about it. A tulip table is on my list so I can only imagine the tragedy:(

Ohhhh, the burlwood table was beautiful but I bet if you find an open piece you’ll love it even more! As far as seller’s remorse…. there’s a few things I’ve thought about selling but didn’t (and am glad I didn’t) – like my orange Panton capiz chandelier and the brass tray coffee table with a spider base. But I had a set of Brasilia II bedroom furniture that I sold about 10 years ago that I wish I still had. It was a darker walnut tone than the original Brasilia line and it had block bases rather than legs but I loved it. And I miss it. I was trying to downsize before we moved into our house but…. *sigh*

It’s crazy, but I traded a leather recliner — not a big ugly thing, but a lovely club-sized warm brown, end-of-day recliner to the (really inspired) house-stager who helped to sell our house. He fell in love with the chair and said we didn’t need to pay him if he could have it. And I was insane with moving and he was so nice… And I miss that chair every time I try to arrange cushions and get comfy to read a book. Sigh.

As a burlwood lover, I was so sad when you got rid of that piece!! I hoard everything, so I have yet to give aways something that I loved, but I’m sure someday it will happen.
Shavonda Gardner says
I hear you friend. I usually hoard my furniture too, but I was all “let go and let live” and now Im living with regret! LOL

I share your love of burlwood and that dining room. That photo is seared into my brain and jump started my burlwood passion. The room is by the fabulous Grant Gibson. He did it for a San Francisco show house several years ago. If you go to his website and look under the “journal” heading, he has an entry all about it. Love your blog.

Ahh Ann!!! Thank you so so much! Ive been wracking my brain trying to figure out where I first saw it. I go to to the San Francisco Showhouse every year so I KNEW I knew it but couldn’t figure it out. Ill be updating it right now! 🙂

I had this great vinyl, midcentury chair that I had gotten for $5 at a yard sale in college. It was bright blue and a great statement piece, plus super comfy. It lived with me through three apartments and our first house, but after having kids, the vinyl split and the stuffing was coming out and so I got rid of it. I regret not trying to figure out a way to save it, because it was a gorgeous chair and the shape was perfection! So I totally relate to this!

Oh Man!!!! It sounded like a dream Stephanie! Im sure an upholsterer could’ve fixed it for sure. But Im sending all the good treasure hunting juju your way that you come across another similar one someday:)
