Hi Everyone!
HAPPY NEW YEAR friends!!!! Yall, its 2020. Twenty. Twenty. Can you even believe it? It feels like such a big year right? It’s a whole new decade and I’m so looking forward to what’s ahead. BUT FIRSTTTTT….In the spirit of fresh starts and all, let’s chat a bit about something I’ve been avoiding for a long long time: organization.
So I have a confession friends. I’ve been hiding a dirty little secret from yall. I’m TERRRIBBLLEE at organization. Like, terrible. One of my home goals for 2019 was to focus on organization and lets just say it didn’t go over as well as I pictured in my mind. Lol! There are several places in our home that need an organization overhaul, and none moreso than the pantry.
You ever notice I never show you our pantry area? How many of you didn’t even know we had one!? Right! Well there’s a reason for that. It’s a MESS. I’ve been telling myself for years now that we have got to do something about the organization of it so when I recently went in looking for something and things started falling over it was the last straw. Something had to be done…immediately!
If you’ve been following me on social for a while you know one of the things we’ve been majorly focusing on as a family is becoming much more sustainable and eco conscious in the way we live, particularly when it comes to waste and using single use plastics. Our goal was to reduce our household waste and plastic use by 80%, and while we have been doing great in some areas, we’ve been failing in the food & pantry department. I looked in the pantry and just saw a sea of plastic bag containers, food boxes, multiples of items that have all been opened and only small amounts used, and so. much. expired. product. It made me cringe friends.
Admittedly the pantry is kind of in an awkward place as it’s tucked over by the side of the fridge. We are super lucky to even have a pantry in a house as old as ours though, and while it’s not huge, it’s not a terrible size either. A big part of why it’s been such a mess is because there was no real organization. So priority number one was getting in some thoughtful storage solutions to really maximize what little space we have. Enter OXO POP containers.
I’ve always loved the ease and convenience of OXO POP containers (you can see we had some already), but now there’s even more to love. POP Containers have been newly redesigned to offer an added layer of convenience and storage. You can now neatly attach new OXO Good Grips POP accessories to the underside of the are a brand-new POP Container lids to help you make the most of POP Containers. Among the accessories are scoops
a brown sugar saver –how genius is this!
even a date keeper so you will know when things expire
Friends! These things are so amazing! I feel like we more than doubled our usable space and we are able to SEE everything we have so we know what we need and what we don’t. No more three bags of opened chia seeds and two containers of half full grits! Plus POP Containers and accessories are all BPA free so they contribute to our families mission to live a more eco conscious existence.
I also added a lazy susan to corral all of our oils and sauces. Game. Changer.
I really love how this simple project has made our lives SO MUCH BETTER on a daily basis. When you live in a small space every single inch counts, and when something isn’t working you feel it so much more. We are planning a bigger design overhaul of the pantry a little later this year and will be adding another shelf and changing up the aesthetics, but this was such a massive start to having our little kitchen be big on function.
Alright so now that that’s all taken care of I can get to focusing on the other badly disorganized spaces in our house. Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday. Until next time friends…

A date keeper, that’s so clever! These containers are really helpful for the pantry!

Love this!! I’m on this same mission this year, that was migrated from last year. I’ve been eyeing these containers for a while now, and I think I’ve just decided to invest!! The lazy Susan was an extra bonus too!

Love those containers. They’ve gotten fancier since I got mine in the great pantry moth infestation of 2012.
