Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to the second installment of Feel Good Makeover’s for my sweet niece and nephew’s. If you didn’t catch the first one head over there now and get caught up. Today I’m sharing my nephew Devin’s room. He’s 7 years old, the middle child and a total sweetheart. Let’s have a look at what Devin’s Room looked like before…
Devin’s room is the smallest in the house and I really wanted to make some bold moves in here. My favorite kind of design challenge. I asked him what he’d like his room to look like and he only had one request: “auntie can my room please have red in it because its my favorite color”. You got it sweet boy! He also loves Star Wars so I took that and ran with it. Here’s what his room looks like now…
I love this room so so much! The photos don’t really convey the depth or how amazing this room feels in person. We decided to paint his walls a warm grey color, Repose Grey by Sherwin-Williams. We found this great Star Wars wallpaper that just HAD to go in here and I insisted on the black ceiling. Emily was super skeptical about it, but I think it totally makes the space. I also wanted to bring in as many moments of red as possible so alongside the decor we decided to paint the doors and baseboards Positive Red by Sherwin-Williams. In terms of function I focused on trying to maximize all the space we could and make the most of the limited square footage. We swapped out his bed in lieu of an upholstered daybed with pull out storage and brought in a dresser for additional storage.
We kept things pretty simple with his holiday decor and stuck with a color palette of black, white, red and silver. We brought it lots of pillows and a few other festive details to bring in some holiday cheer.
Did I mention they just got a new puppy! Yeah, that happened. Her name is Sadie, she’s a goldendoodle and she’s Devin’s favorite thing in the world right now. He loves her so much and she’s never far from him. It was only natural that she’d make an appearance in his photoshoot!
Devin is the kindest, most selfless and super considerate kid there is. He’s momma’s helper and is always making sure everyone in the house is taken care of. I’m so so happy to have been able to create this space just for him to be surrounded by his favorite things. Every time he see’s me he thanks me for his room and I feel like my heart could burst into a million pieces. I just love him so much.

This is the type of bold that is so hard for me to envision – but I absolutely love seeing it come to life. What a lucky kid to get such a nicely designed room!

Hey Shavonda, can I tell you how much I LOVE Starwars? The wallpaper is soooo good, graphic and will grow with him. Of course a Starwars room needs red, it’s the best. Now, every year he can get a few new ornaments to start being a collector. Hallmark, has the best ones too. Kurt Adler some cool stuff to. I am so excited for this adorable young man ❤️ And his amazing bedroom and dog ? wow

I love this room! The ceiling is perfect. Also it would be hard for me to resist getting my sons a puppy if they were Devin’s age after seeing those pictures.

Good morning Shavonda! Your love for your sister, niece, and nephews shines through these posts. The boys’ rooms all look SO GOOD and are so perfectly executed. (And of course, like everyone else in the world, I’m obsessed with your sister’s room too!) My husband is also going to be so mad at you when we all have personal room trees next year (because I can’t take on any more this year, ha!). So looking forward to the final reveal tomorrow – this journey is filling me with holiday cheer.
