Hi Everyone! It’s that time of year again…Color of the Year time! Last year I worked with Sherwin-Williams to celebrate the reveal of the 2021 Color Of The Year and I’m so thrilled to be back again to help celebrate their 12th year with the 2022 Color of the Year: Evergreen Fog SW 9130.
Ya’ll! I’m so excited about this color! Evergreen Fog is a beautiful, muted green with grey undertones. It evokes a feeling of calm and balance, but also has an organic and grounding energy inspired by nature. It’s so incredibly versatile and I just love it! As soon as I saw it I had just the project in mind for it! One of my dearest friends recently moved within five minutes of me and they’ve been busy trying to get established in their new home and city. This is an extra special move because, like us, they downsized from a home about twice the size with two littles. As a huge advocate of small home living, I really wanted to help make their transition into this new journey feel as exciting and special as possible, so I offered to help create a relaxing primary bedroom for them to enjoy. Let’s meet the space!
We started with a big white blank canvas and a few challenges. The space is small so I had to work with a limited footprint while still accounting for their storage needs. We also had a very, very limited budget. They just moved in and have prioritized other more pressing renovations, so this space was all about creative re-use, handcraft and the power of paint. They also didn’t want to make any structural changes to the space and really preferred to work with it as is. Zero-to-no budget makeovers are my fave so I was really excited to get started!
I really wanted to lean into the color in here so we painted all of the surfaces Evergreen Fog, including the walls, trim, ceiling, and doors. I’m a huge huge fan of flushing color over a space from floor to ceiling. It gives the illusion of more space because there are no visual breaks in color so the eye doesn’t stop. Plus, I think it really elevates the overall look and details in a space. After some clever and crafty styling, here is what the finished room looks like!
I’m so so happy with how this space came together! The overall goal was to create a space that feels natural and easy going, but also very relaxing and comfortable. They didn’t want a lot of frill or fancy, and they took cues from nature with plants and layers of texture. It was a lot of fun shopping both their house and my garage for things that would be the perfect addition to the space.
I love working with small spaces because they force you to think creatively about how to bring in functionality. My friend is pretty minimal and doesn’t require a ton of storage bedside, but still needed a surface for a few essentials so we upcycled a simple shelf over the bed with inexpensive brackets. For a fun alternative to curtains, she DIY’d a macrame screen for the window. It provides privacy but also doubles as art since it looks just like a tapestry! I just love it.
One of my favorite things about the Color of The Year launch this year is using beautiful coordinating colors as an accent to it. My friend is an artist and she wanted to lean into that so she painted accents around the room with stripes, shapes and lines using Shoji White SW 7042, Accessible Beige SW 7036 and Tricorn Black SW 6258. I love how these details add interest to the space and look so good paired with the gorgeous moody tones in Evergreen Fog.
So often we focus on every other room in the house first and put off the primary bedroom for last. I always try to advocate for folks to really prioritize that space, especially when they have children, because you need a place for relaxation and restoration at the end of the day. I just love the way this room came together! This was the perfect project to really highlight the power of paint, creativity, and giving your old things new life. It feels natural, textured and very relaxing.
If you’re thinking you may want to give Evergreen Fog a try in your space it’s one of the colors that Sherwin-Williams offers as a Peel and Stick sample! I LOVE their Peel and Stick samples because there’s no mess and no dry time, just peel it off and stick it to your wall! My fave part is that they’re easy to reposition and move around so you can see how it looks in different areas of your space and different lighting situations. Peel and Stick samples ship for free and they are available in 75 top selling colors and 50 Emerald Designer Edition colors.
Is there a space in your home you think Evergreen Fog would be perfect for? I think it would also be amazing in a bathroom, nursery, office, or kitchen too. I can’t wait to see your Color of the Year projects. Make sure you share your spaces with me!
Until next time….

The room looks great!!!! What color is the stain on the shelf over the bed? I painted my daughter’s room Evergreen Fog today and have a piece of furniture that I’m about to stain to put in there.

Hi Shavonda! The room looks beautiful! When you paint everything the same color, what sheens do you use? I’m planning to paint my laundry/utility space and am considering painting the ceiling and trim as well. I am thinking of using the SW color Still Water, and need something that is very durable and wipeable but not going to show every bit of wall imperfection (this is my first big painting job in our house.
Thank you for all the advice and inspiration you share! I appreciate any wisdom you might share.

This transformation is ridiculous! $100 and some paint looks like a million bucks. From your kitchen, clearly an investment, to this gorgeous room just showcases your incredible talent.
