Hi there! I’m Shavonda! Welcome to SG Style… where small spaces, moody eclectic interiors, and little old houses are a really big deal!
In the summer of 2014 my family and I ditched our cookie cutter builder grade larger house for a little old bungalow half its size. Thus began our journey into downsized life. Every day is a lesson in adjustment, living intentionally, and being happy with less space. This blog serves as a space for me to not only share our story, but also to share my passion for design, travel, gardening, personal style, and inspiring ideas for living large in small spaces.
I lived a pretty nomadic life growing up and being exposed to so many different places had a major influence on both my approach to design and my personal style. I’m a self-proclaimed maximalist and I love bold, moody, collected & eclectic globally inspired interiors. Also black. Gimme all the black interiors!
My design philosophy: Just because you live small, it doesn’t mean you can’t have big bold style! I believe great design is achieved when we focus on creating spaces that make us feel amazing…no matter how small the footprint. Bottom line: Life is too short to live in a home that doesn’t make your heart smile. If yours doesn’t do this you need to let it go and start over. It doesn’t matter if you’re a renter or a homeowner your home should contribute to your well being, and that can happen just by starting where you are.
My design style: Eclectic…. with a distinct global influence. I love a mix of old and new, high-end and budget-savvy, and prefer spaces that are layered to the max. I believe every space needs a bit of the unexpected and a little something black……well, sometimes A LOT of black! I also believe in supporting creatives of color, independent artists & makers, and girl bosses by shopping small businesses whenever possible.
Thank you for stopping by! I hope you love it here.
