Hi Everyone!
About a week ago I posted this pic on Instagram which received a lot of really good feedback.
In my post I mentioned how I’m all about the light wood and Naomi is on the opposite spectrum liking darker wood. We’ve been wanting to get rid of our carpet and linoleum flooring since the second we moved into the house. Hopefully that’ll happen soon. In preparation, Nay and I have been talking a lot about the flooring options and we both know for sure we want engineered wood. But, our agreement stopped there.
She’s all about the dark wood, while I’m really really leaning heavily toward light wood. Around this time last year I would’ve been on #teamdarkwood too, but both my style and tastes have evolved and my realization that everyone I know that has dark wood floors curses the day they had them laid! From what I gather they are pretty high maintenance. I know that dark wood is what most people want because they are beautiful and classic, and desirable, but I’m kinda just a little over them. I want something, I don’t know….different.
I ordered these samples through Build Direct. Dana from House Tweaking used them for her flooring so they came highly recommended. First let me just say these suckers arrived like the very next day and they were free to boot! Didn’t even have to pay the shipping. It was super fast and I am extremely impressed with the quality of the samples. No, they didn’t pay me to say that, I’m just telling the truth.
Anyway, y’all know I’m a sucker for deep saturated color literally everywhere in a room, especially the walls. I think that may be why I’m drawn to lighter wood floors, I guess. Its a balance thing. I am just a tad concerned about how well they will be received when we get ready to sell the house later on down the line, though. But the reality is we will be in this house for at least another 5-7 years, so I don’t want to design to sell, I want to design to live in and enjoy.
When Nay got home from work and saw the samples I was extremely shocked that she actually told me her top choice was the light wood! Its official. Light it is. You guys, this NEVER happens, like EVER. I’m not asking any questions, my friends, I’m just rollin with it!
These spaces totally help confirm my love for a lighter tone underfoot:
So tell me….which do you prefer? Light or Dark? Do tell. Until next time…

We had light wood floors in our first house and they were really beautiful. With the right style they work, but I also love me some dark floors! Our floors are dark now and I love them too. I don’t think you can wrong either way 🙂 xo Kristin

You know that I’m on team “light wood” too. My floors are the lightest maple they had 13 years ago and I never regretted getting the light. Even though I love the dark too but one major PLUS point is that you don’t see the dirt like you do on dark. People always tell me that my floors look so clean, even with all my cats. They look clean but don’t sit on the floor, LOL.
While all my other friends with dark floors are stressing about dust, hair and water stains, I’m laughing and loving my floors even more. 🙂
