Hi Everyone!
Happy Tuesday friends! We’ve been making some changes here at the bungalow and today Im sharing one of my favorite so far. You guys know how much I HATED the security doors that came with the house, right? They were ugly, hid our front door, and made me feel like I lived in a penitentiary. I’ve planned to get rid of them pretty much since the day we got the keys.
Soon after we moved in I gave the front door a mini makeover and painted it a fun color.
The makeover was just enough of a temporary fix to hold me over til we could replace the front door with a new one. I really wanted a door that was more cottage style and that had more glass to allow some light into our small entry. I recently partnered with The Home Depot to make that vision come to life.
We now have a new front door that is not only pretty and looks as though its always belonged to our house, but also allows for a bit of extra security which allowed us to get rid of those hideous security doors!
Of course with an old house NOTHING is ever as easy as it should be, so we had some exterior paint casualities in the process. Next spring we plan to focus on the exterior of the house, including having the house painted so Im ok with a little peeled paint for now!
Head over to the Home Depot blog to see more of this project!
Until next time friends…

Hi Shavonda, I couldn’t agree more that removing the security door. Though if you do choose to put some kind of security door in the future you should look into “screen mesh security doors” they are less aesthetically intrusive compared to security doors with thick steel bars

Amazing post and exceptional pictures of doors! You have inspired me to paint my new front entry doors! I would like to let you know about an online doors store Discountdoorsus.com that sells a great selection of front entry doors, feel free to visit them and thanks for the share.

I’m curious about the alarm on the front door. Is it really loud? Does it do off if someone puts a wrong code in? I have 2 Danes. Mine act as alarm & door bell.
Shavonda says
Hi Marie! The alarm isn’t tremendously loud, but you definitely hear it. It doesn’t go off when someone puts a key in the lock because it can also be unlocked with a key. It goes off when the door has been tampered with or has an intrusion attempt.
Shavonda says
And I have a Dane as well! Shes the perfect alarm for sure. Noone gets close to the house without us knowing about it!

The Bungalow is all on one level with standard door widths. The bungalow is situated in it’s own fenced in lawned garden which is slightly sloping towards the fence at the front.

Love love love the colour you chose! And totally agree, the old door just didn’t fit with the style of the cottage and the security doors – dear god. Can’t wait to see the full transformation eventually but you’re off to an amazing start! 😀 xxx

Wow, such a beautiful difference! Those doors really were jail-like. I love the idea of getting a door with windows to add in that extra little bit of light for the natural-light-lover I am.

Oh my goodness! I love this SO much!!

Hey Shavonda I couldn’t agree more that removing the security door makes it much nicer. Though these days you can get screen mesh security doors that are less aesthetically intrusive. They are like storm doors but use a high grade stainless steel mesh that adds security without needing a door with steel bars
