Hi Everyone!
Happy ORC Wednesday friends! We’ve made it to week 6 yall. Barely. But we made it!
It’s been a very long, exhausting, emotional road through this renovation and I’m happy to share with you the culmination of all that work today. As you know I ran into issues with the shower install so the space isnt 100% complete, but its about 85% done and we are excited about where its at. So without further ado….
Lets take a quick look back at where we started just 6 weeks ago:
And here we are today:
Even though we kept the same layout the space feels completely different, and the end result is so much more functional for our family.
So lets talk about the key players. Starting with the most drastic visual change in the space: the walls.
Super high on my priority list was getting rid of those boring white terribly lit walls and this combination of wallpaper from Milton and King and shiplap from Metrie painted black makes me so so happy. Im known for being quite bold with my wallpaper choices and this is certainly no exception. I really wanted to go with something a bit unique and different in here. Once all the tile and other materials with hard angles started making thier way into the room things were starting to feel very very modern and a bit minimal. I needed something with some movement to soften it up and balance things out, and this paper couldn’t be more perfect. Its inspired by a vintage Valentino print and I’m obsessed with the circling leopards.
This paper comes in 3 colorways and I chose the Osaka (brown). I love the way it looks with the black wainscoting. I was trying to avoid it looking too similar to the laundry room wallpaper because of the purple monsetra leaves, and I think its just right.
Our house was built in 1940 so I also wanted to bring in a bit of a traditional element like wainscoting into the mix as well. I challenged myself to use shiplap since Im tyically a big proponent against it. The pre primed Option M shiplap from Metrie was really really easy to install and work with. Once I painted it black it totally changed the look of it. I used the color Blackest in semigloss from Clare paint by Nicole Gibbons. For the ceiling I kept it light by painting it a creamy off white called Timeless in the perfect eggshell finish.
Another top priority for us in this space was bringing in much needed natural light. I shared in Week 3 the addition of our new Velux skylight and we still pinch ourselves every time we walk in here.
The room gets flooded with so much gorgeous natural light all day long. It truly is such a wonderful experience. We definitely don’t take it for granted.
Previously we also lacked storage. Big time. Another big focus was to amp up the storage potential in here as much as possible so we brought in a generous floating vanity from Overstock, added a tall niche with shelves along the wall, and added storage niches in the shower and tub.
Baskets tucked under the vanity serve as additional storage to hold toilet paper and extra towels for guests.
And I fully plan to enjoy long relaxing baths in the tub with a glass of wine, a book, and candles with this bamboo bathtub caddy
For the vanity area I brought in a round mirror from Varaluz and I much prefer the size and scale of it in here compared to the rectagular one that was here before. I love the stopwatch detail of it too!
As for the lighting I replaced the single over the mirror vanity lights with two Cornwall sconces from Hudson Valley Lighting.
They are so gorgeous and very generous in size, too. I love the way the brass looks against the wallpaper and contrasts with the black elements in the room.
Now for one of my absolute favorite addtions to the space…the faucetry. Im obsessed with beautiful bath fixtures guys. In a bathroom one of the places I believe in splurging is on fixtures. Water is essential to life. It’s an experience we look forward to at the end of the day and there’s nothing better or more luxurious than enjoying a wonderful bath or shower with gorgeous faucetry. Our new Crosswater London faucetry is just stunning. We love them so much!
I selected the MPRO collection for our space and we love the sleek, modern styling of it. I opted to add a handshower in the tub for convenience and to make baths just a tad more luxe. I chose to mix metals with the faucetry as well and went with the polished brass fixtures for the tub and shower, and matte black for the vanity. MPRO comes in 5 finishes and they are all so so beautiful. I chose the faucet with the knurl detail for the sink and, again, its just another distinctive touch that makes it really special. I really love the brass fixtures against the unglazed hex tiles.
There are a few finishing details that didn’t quite make it in time for the reveal like the towel bars, hooks, toilet paper holder, vanity hardware, etc., so Ill be adding those in an updating images as they arrive. Ill also be back with a part 2 of this reveal once the shower install is complete as well.
Everyone knows a bathroom renovation is no walk in the park, and when you add in renovating the only bathroom in the house its for sure not for the faint of heart. My family has been really amazing through the process and we are all glad its almost over. For now we’ve been enoying our space as it comes together.
Thank you so much Linda for having me. Its been such an honor to be included. And thank you so much for the amazingly generous sponsors for helping us make this space special for our family.
Now make sure you head on over to the other featured designer spaces to check out thier reveals. Im seriously floored by how amazing they are!

Wow.
I have a similar (i.e. old) bathroom and it’s jealous.
Oona says
I just keep coming back and looking again, Shavonda! So much to take in. Such brilliant ideas in a small space just about like mine! The finishes are gorgeous, but what really makes this bathroom a revelation to me is the way you use all those dark colors and end up with a really light, bright room. That skylight is perfect for the spot, and bringing the ceiling paint down through the entire vault of the ceiling just expands the light it gives. Thank you for inviting us in. Can’t wait to see the finished shower… though you’ve more than earned a rest. Happy Thanksgiving!
Karen says
This looks so great! I like the wallpaper and I think the shiplap looks better in black! I’ve always been indifferent to it but the black is a standout!
I probably say this everytime I comment but I’m so happy to see a blog that isn’t just neutrals and is dramatic. (not to knock those people, people like what they like.)

Love this!! The contrast in colors is so amazing! The wallpaper was a shock, but it looks wonderful in the space. And I love how the tile around the tub isn’t jet black, but more of a charcoal. And you pulled it off even with a major hiccup! I bow down. I’m a “light and bright” kind of girl (I live in the PNW and need lots of light in the grey rainy winter to feel happy) but man, your dark and bold style is jaw droppingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us!
