Hi Everyone!
Happy Friday friends! Today Im here with a post I’m really excited to share. Much like when I wrote about my favorite black paint colors I’m going to be sharing about something I get asked about often: IKEA pieces. Yesterday while professing my love for one item in particular I was asked if I happened to have a list somewhere of what my other favorite home things from IKEA are. Yall, I did not! The blasphemy! So I’m fixing that right here and right now. And while I’m at it I think I’m going to make this a thing. Friday Five: A round up of Five Fave Things.
Like most people, I’ve been a looooong time fan of IKEA. Last year I had the opportunity to be part of their Ambassador program and got to learn even more about the brand and the company culture, and in doing so got to see so much more of the why behind what they do. It gave me such an expanded respect for the retailer, their design team, and for how they make life better for us in our homes in even the smallest of ways. With that said, this post is not sponsored and is not part of a partnership. Just wanted to give ya’ll the real deal skinny on a topic I talk about often.
While there are 52,789 things I love at IKEA, there are five items I think are just THE best across the board. These are items I have purchased and either currently have or have had in my own home at some point, and that I 1000% recommend when anyone asks me about them. They’re the things I think work in any home no matter its size or style.
Let see, I think I’m going to change it up bit and put them in order of rank. Ok here we go..top 5 IKEA pieces perfect for any home:
5. HOVET Mirror
This mirror makes the list for so many reasons. First of all this sucker is HUGE and its soooo affordable for its size. I’m a MASSIVE fan of big full length mirrors, ESPECIALLY in small spaces, and this one is really great.
In our home it lives in Bry’s room and it makes all her teenage narcissistic must-always-be-looking-at-myself-in-the-mirror dreams come true. If you are a small space dweller this guy will bounce light and expand views like nobody’s business.
4. BILLY Bookcase
our previous house
The BILLY had to make the list. HAD. TO. There’s a reason it’s their most popular and best selling product. If you need to majorly maximize wall space this is where it’s at. Some of the best IKEA hacks and custom builds start with the BILLY as the base (ahem…Jenny Komenda’s bookcase hack will always and forever be a fave).
3. KUNGSFORS Rail
This is one of those pieces that’s just a straight up workhorse. I have two in my kitchen alone. One holds coffee mugs tucked under the open shelves and the other is on the wall and is used to hang our pots and pans. The style has changed slightly from its original design, but the KUNGSFORS is great for anywhere you need to eek out just an extra bit of wall storage. They are great in a bathroom to hang towels or near an entry for totes and jackets. They’re awesome installed on the back of doors or under windows or just about anywhere.
2. SINNERLIG Pendant Light
This one almost made the number one spot! This pendant light is where it’s at friends! It’s been seen E VER EE WHERE, and for good reason. It’s UNDER $80 for starters! Also it’s so versatile and can be use indoors or outdoors. I’ve seen it in almost every room you can think of. I’ve seen it in budget spaces and higher end spaces.
I really love it when it’s paired up and used with more than one in an area, like over an island or table. Plus it’s super customizable and can easily be spray painted any color of the rainbow. AND it throws off the most gorgeous light and shadows at night.
It’s just a brilliant, beautiful piece and I can say with complete confidence that it will be something I have in every house I ever live in. Also if it ever gets discontinued I will cry very real tears. Not even exaggerating.
1. HEMNES Shoe Cabinet
photo of our home taken my Create and Gather
In the top spot is the small space superstar. Hands down my number 1 favorite IKEA piece for any home is this shoe cabinet. This guy, and its bigger brother version, is straight up BAE. We’ve had one or the other in our home for the past 7 years and I can’t possibly recommend it enough. It’s like the swiss army knife of storage solutions.
It’s great for shoes, mail, pet supplies, books/magazines, food, junk, linens, literally ALL THE THINGS. In our last house we had the larger version in the laundry room and brought it over to the bungalow for the entry when we moved in here. It was just slightly too deep for our very tight space so we traded it in for the shorter, shallower version and it’s been perfect!
Also I HIGHLY recommend a quick swap out of the hardware to elevate it even more. I put these gorgeous agate knobs from Anthropologie on ours and people can’t believe it’s the same piece.
Also can we get a slow clap for the design evolution situation our home has endured. I loved those deep teal walls when we first moved in!
*Bonus item: because I had a really hard time leaving this one out: RIBBA Frames
I don’t really think there’s much to be said about this one friends. RIBBA frames are like a household staple at this point. They’re inexpensive and come in a ton of sizes and several finish options. If you need a frame for art or photographs they’re a no brainer.
Alrighty then so there you have it. My top 5 favorite IKEA pieces I think are perfect for every home….no matter its size. I’d love to know what products make your list? Until next time friends….

I love the Pax system so much. We just were able to create the closet/dressing room of our dreams due to the versatility of the units. All at a fraction of the cost of a custom closet.

Hi Julie!! YESSSS I LOVE our PAX closet system so much. It’s for sure one of the best investments we’ve made. It almost made the list too, but I had to think about which pieces I felt were super accessible and could truly work for any space. We’re actually planning a few edits and updates to our system coming up.

Thanks for this post! I use the Kungsfors rail with several hooks and a hanging basket in my sewing space to keep all of my things organized and handy. It’s a great workhorse!

Oooh super smart. I love that.

Great post Shavonda. Of course I followed the link to the arched bookcases and then followed the links in their, then got lost deep into Babble but eventually retreated back to finish reading your post!

Hi Mary Lou! OMG isn’t Jenny’s blog just so lust-worthy. Im telling you I get lost in darn near every project she shares. The Billy bookcase hack is probably my all time fave of hers though. Just so so good.
